Some of the fine  musicians who have graced the Beach Side Cafe...

Doc Petersen

As a young boy Doc played ukulele on the streets of Frederiksted entertaining residents and tourists alike!  Using these early experiences as a springboard, Doc began singing with several local calypso bands at the age of 14, and his music has taken him to such exotic places as New Delhi, India, Belgium, England, Holland and the U.S. Mainland, and Denmark.  He serves as the Musical Ambassador to the Island Center on St. Croix, and can be found playing on the last Saturday of each month at the Beach Side Café at Sandcastle on the Beach Hotel in Frederiksted.

Jazzmin

Jacquie is a classically trained vocalist who performs songs made famous by artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Sade, Norah Jones, Astrud Gilberto, Sarah Vaughan, and Stevie Nicks, to name just a few.  She has thrilled audiences for the past three years at various locations on St. Croix.  Prior to moving to St. Croix she lived, worked, and performed mostly in her native New York, to include venues like Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Rockefeller Center, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and West Point Military Academy.  She has done musical tours through the Eastern United States, parts of Europe including Romania, Greece, and Holland, as well as parts of the Caribbean.

Simpson is an accomplished multi-instrumentalist who accompanies Jacquie on keyboards, guitar, and synthesizers.  He also does some lead vocals, preferring the classic soft-rock styles of groups like The Eagles, Bruce Springsteen, and America, among others.  Simpson was one of the original members of the world-famous reggae group "The Midnite Band", and occasionally contributes guitar tracks to their albums.  He was the guitar player for the Code 9 Band which was for years the most popular party band on St. Croix.

 Eddie Russell

Eddie Russell began playing trumpet professionally at age 15, forming his first group, Eddie & The Playboys, in 1964. Eddie Russell has played with and studied under music legends such as Wynton Marsalis, Jimmy Garrison, James Moody, The Mighty Sparrow, and Sam & Dave.  He can be heard on Mr. Bow Tie CD of jazz bass master Ron Carter. Eddie also is a prolific composer and a music educator.

Jazzy Blue, the One Man Band, plays keyboard and sings in a soulful, passionate and powerful baritone voice. Among Jazzy's recordings are That Ain't All I Wanna Say and Cowboy Blue. Jazzy's repertoire also includes a little bit of Soul, R & B, Classic Rock, Pop, and Caribbean flavors.

Sally Smith

A 35 year veteran musician, Sally has played in a variety of settings as a solo pianist/vocalist and as part various musical ensembles, both as leader and as a sideman. 15 years playing in the Catskill Mt. Resort area of New York, the so-called Borscht Belt, provided a chance for her to lead the Show Band for the world-famous Grossingers Resort.

Living on St. Thomas since 1995, Sally created the group Sally Smith & Co. She has performed at many of the jazz venues in the Virgin Islands including the Jazz in Moonlight Concert Series. In 2004, Sally opened for jazz great, Gato Barbieri at the Island Center on St. Croix.

Steve Simon

After producing the Moonlight Jazz Concert Series concerts on St. Croix and St. John, Steve decided to dedicate more time to playing on his own. He began performing in a jazz band on St. John, tapping 4 St. Thomas talents: pianist/vocalist Sally Smith, saxophonist Joe Ramsay, bass player Cliff Finch and drummer Jeff Minnieweather - and says the result of the partnership is his dream's come true.

 Lucie Blue Tremblay

Tremblay serenades us with a rich, warm voice that can soar from a throaty purr to strong, crystal tones, her songs combining a soft melodic essence with a depth of feeling that is riveting, particularly in her love songs. Her self-titled debut album was voted Top Ten Album of the Year by the Boston Globe in 1986, and in subsequent albums she has continued to turn personal experience into compelling songs. Her performing credits include appearances at New York's Carnegie Hall and the Canadian Pavilion at the 1992 World's Fair in Seville, Spain. She most recently was heard with James Taylor and Randy Newman on NPR's weekly broadcast "E-Town."

Joel Press

Joel Press speaks the language of swing based, post-World War II jazz in as singular a fashion as any living saxophonist. NPR recently described him as "The Legendary Boston Jazz Musician."

Joel is a versatile musician who has grooved with the likes of pianist Jaki Byard, bassist Jimmy Garrison of the John Coltrane Quartet, vocalist Sheila Jordan, and Duke Ellington's ubiquitous cornetist/ violinist/ vocalist - Ray Nance.
