For those of you that have been following along through our emails and social media posts, we’ve been rebuilding the Sand Castle from the beach up- making improvements to our rooms and around the hotel. If you haven’t already, you should check out our news section for previous installments of our ongoing enhancements.
With the latest round of renovations, we’ve completely stripped several of our rooms in the main building down to bare concrete. Starting with a blank canvas has allowed us to focus on creating a comfortable and serene environment to help make your stay as relaxing and enjoyable as possible. Beyond the creature comforts of new luxurious beds, fine linens and updated furniture, we’ve lovingly poured over every detail of the design and layout of each room; the bathrooms now feature spacious countertops with large basin sinks and designer faucets; the shower stalls have been widened for more room; even the placement of the television in our Seaview Suites didn’t escape our consideration- it’s now mounted on a swivel in a custom passthrough so that it can be seen from both the livingroom and the bedroom. One of the most noticeable enhancements has been the inclusion of hurricane impact windows that will allow you to retain a more comfortable and consistent temperature in the rooms when using the air conditioners in the St. Croix tropical heat while allowing the golden sunlight in.
We didn’t stop there! You’ll also notice the newly renovated ocean-side pool. We turned the party up a notch by building in semi-submerged bench along the poolside, so that you can enjoy a relaxing cocktail with your friends while soaking in warm salt-treated water. What could be better?
Our restoration efforts don’t end here. We’ll keep you up to date as we tackle more improvements around the hotel. We’d love to have you visit and experience all of these great new amenities for yourself. Give us a call at 1 (340) 772-1205 and we’ll be glad to have a room ready for you.
The story continues
Sand Castle on the Beach was designed and built in 1969 by the distinguished, Wisconsin-born architect, John Randall McDonald. He was an admirer of Frank Lloyd Wright and his Prairie School of Architecture, which inspired the organic qualities of his designs. A prolific practitioner of his craft, McDonald was commissioned to design monasteries, schools, hotels and even residential homes for many noted celebrities of the time- such as Bjorn Borg, Mickey Mantle, Perry Como, Jimmy Connors and even here on St. Croix for Maureen O’Hara. McDonald passed away in 2003 but, his legacy lives on as we maintain and update this historic treasure.
